Hello !

I hope you're all having a beautiful and peaceful summer time !

I am finally on holiday and enjoying as much as possible my three weeks of free time far from the university ^^

Last week I have spent a fantastic time in Paris with ~Sallynightmare and ~livephotos, we've really had lots of fun, and I was so happy to see them and Paris again. Gosh I love this city so much !!
I have also been to Soulac/mer, a beautiful place located in the south west of France, and have also enjoyed some great time with the Gomorah Records team and met there lots of new people ! It's really been refreshing to leave Bordeaux and forget everything for some time !
Now I try to rest a little and then will leave again by next week ^^

My dear friends and watchers,

I hope you're doing alright !

I haven't given news in more than a month, but I am going to break the silence to announce a couple of important news.

First is that I have chosen to put my domain on hiatus. This pause is deliberate since I dont think the online version on Ravendusk.com reflects what I am and what I intend to do anylonger.

For more than one year now I have been working full time at the University and this job has changed my life for the best. During all this time I have tried to pursue my goals with Ravendusk Design as I did in the past, but with time and responsabilities inherent to my important job over at the faculty, I have to make a choice. I cannot lead both activities fully, it has become impossible.

And the choice is made, I have decided to quit providing artwork on request. The reasons are of course lack of time, but also tiredness, the feeling of being considered like some sort of machine intended to produce images, and many other events related to the graphic designer life that are so common to all designers that I dont need to list them.

The passion inside is far from being dead, I will still do artworks, but for me mainly, I want to grow up as an artist, I still need to express myself through images, but I dont want to mix up art and business anymore. This is not me and I dont need it anylonger. We all need to move on, and this is one of my most important move as a grown up. Leaving aside the adolescent activities that cannot be combined with a full and active life.

I may from time to time accept a request from a band I particularly appreciate, or for friends, but in no way I will be running Ravendusk Design like I have done through those past years.

This is indeed not a hard decision to make, I have been thinking of it for the past 6 months, and to be honest I feel relieved being finally rid of all the constraints related to this business.

Now I am going to enjoy my summer (even if I work through it), and take some time for me, it is well needed, especially after the 6 horrible months I went through.

My website will be my portfolio only, and will be back online.

The passion is alive...

Hello !!

I hope you're doing alright and enjoying this nice sunday morning (I like to wake up quite early ^^).

=2dazed has sent me this beautiful stamp as a gift and it it so lovely that I cannot resist featuring it into my journal and encourage you to do so



Right now, I am starting to relax a bit after a very busy week at the Uni (final exams are a plague to organize and set up carefully) but hopefully everything went fine and the semester is ending up quite nicely. It's a pity, and a sad thing to see students that I appreciate go back to their countries (China, Peru, USA...) but all those new encounters have really been fantastic and fulfilling, and I hope, for all of us.

Now I have to work until the end of July when I can get some well deserved vacation

On to the commissions now : I have completed cover artwork for upcoming Further Dimension (french heavy/prog band) cd, and sold the rights of Mourning Palace to a UK based gothic band.

I am currently working on two projects and eventually will start something for a fantastic emerging french band (both industrial and death metal) and really hopes that our collaboration will end up on something great !

Is it just me or are people becoming dumber and dumber ?

Here are the three last things that clearly bugged me over the internet :

- Myspace : Don't be surprised if I refuse to add to my friends someone whose profile or biography is blatantly copy / pasted from mine. As far as I remember I have never had any twin sister.

- Webmasters that use my pics without asking : please have the decency to apologize and not the guts to say :' it's your fault if your artworks are stolen, because you dont protect them enough'...Oh this one is pretty pathetic, isn't it ? At least it got solved. Anyway.

- Bands that email me to take part of their amazing cover artwork contest, which will give me 'the great opportunity' to have at least my time wasted, or at worse my artwork stolen. Please people, don't try to hide spec work behind contests like this, that are only a way to get dozens of prototypes for free. We're not idiots.

Finally, to end up on a more positive note, I am really happy of what's going on lately with a fantastic artist. We've started our collaboration a few days ago, and we are understanding us so well that it gives me hope in commissionned work again ^^
